Stop Motion Goodness

Crafting a music video, one stop-motion frame at a time

Challenge

After creating a strong connection with band on the shoot for “Some Of the Places I Know”, Deepend was the only choice to work with on the video for their next single. But this time, with an increased budget and high expectation to live up to, we needed to create a groundbreaking clip for a single destined for high radio rotation.

Response

Taking the loose narrative in the lyrics, we decided to follow the escapades of lead singer Dan on a 24 hour adventure through Sydney. In order to make the video visually unique, the decision was made to shoot the entire clip in stop motion - shooting over 16,000 stills over 3 days in 10 locations.

Result

An instant online hit, the video was chosen as the channel V ‘Ripe Clip of the Week’ - a first for the band and amassed 25,000 views in the first week and featured on the Triple J ‘Hottest 100’ DVD of 2010. It was also chosen to be screen as part of the St Kilda Film Festival in 2011.
